Blessed

20170615_184712

My family and I were blessed to be able to go camping at Cottonwood Lake in the Rocky mountains ~ vintage style ~ this week! This was a much-needed getaway to unwind and unplug for a while. I am writing this post “old-school,” happily parked in my zero-gravity chair, next to the lake; and I love it! (Btw, If you’ve never sat in a zero gravity chair, you really need to!  They’re awesome!)

I’ve been having a nasty Multiple Sclerosis flare, and unplugging from society and plugging solely into nature is just what the doctor ordered!  sitting next to a mountain lakeI even had some input on the post from the local wildlife, AND my notebook page has my life verse on it (Jer. 29:11).  Talk about everything aligning!

Our trip was also the maiden voyage for our 1967 Williams Craft vintage travel trailer.  This sweet, little rig has been in our family for years and is now ours to enjoy.

While we call Colorado home, camping in the Rocky Mountains is an awe-inspiring experience.  The air is so crisp and clean here, the remoteness is welcomed, and God’s great wonders of creation abound at every turn.  Getting here was all part of the fun!

Our home away from home

Once we arrived at Cottonwood Lake (just outside of Buena Vista, CO), we picked out our “home” for the next few days, gathered firewood and made camp.  Dinner, which was cooked on the grill, was enjoyed with the accompaniment of a gurgling stream to serenade us.  It made for the perfect welcome!

Waking up to the smell of coffee percolating in a 1950’s percolator (which made the best coffee, EVER!) set the perfect tone for the day ahead.  A day full of simple pleasures of fishing, resting, reading and just enjoying nature and my family.

Dinner tonight will be the trout caught from this mountain lake, cooked on the grill; fulfilling our family’s desire to eat as simply and naturally as possible. (By the way, today’s catch is credited solely to my daughter and hubby, as I had trouble with  my own reel, which will need to be upgraded/replaced when we get back home). I saw this reel that I really like.. and it’s on sale!

I’m going to sign off for now, as I have some serious relaxing to get back to!

Blessings,

Casey
